Not many stay in the limelight even after their death. Murlidhar Devidas Amte is one such who is now in the limelight. He is a lawyer by profession but has left his career to fight against social stigmas and leprosy and has helped many people. Incredible isn’t it!!

It is awesome that he has dedicated his life in rehabilitation and empowerment of many leprosy affected people. It is now revealed that this Murlidhar Devidas Amte not only involved himself in freedom fighting before India got its independence but he also did remarkably as one who uplifted the society.

It must not be forgotten that he even injected Bacilli from leprosy patients into him to prove the fact that leprosy was not contagious and people with leprosy needed care and love like other normal humans in this society. Not many present generation people know about how the leprosy affected people were not treated on par with other normal people and these leprosy patients are often isolated from others. It is worthy to mention that that he was born in rich family in the state of Maharashtra but gave up his lawyer profession to help people with leprosy.

It was Mahatma Gandhi who gave him the name ‘Abhay Sadhak’’ for saving a girl from the Britishers and in the year 1971 Murlidhar Devidas Amte was given the prestigious Padma Shri for his tremendous contributions to the society. It is superb to hear that he was responsible for starting United India movement.

Though he had passed away he and his many contributions have been inspiring many young people now. Hats off!!
